Three Speed October Challenge: Week 3 Report.

Doug in Duluth has completed the challenge! But that pesky derailleur, ugh. What do you folks think?

four season cycling

I’m a bit behind on my postings lately. I finished the challenge 6 days ago. I’ve been trying really hard to take advantage of the Fall weather and Fall colors. I can say I have no regrets this Fall about how much I’ve been able to get outside. I’ve done lots of biking and hiking and even one bike camping trip. That’s my excuse for not keeping up on my blogging.

I was able to complete three rides of at least three miles in three separate weeks meeting the Three Speed October Challenge.  Three of the rides were for errands. Six rides were work commutes. Here is my ride summary for week 3:

Sunday, October 16.

I did a 4.5 mile errand ride to the pharmacy and Co-op.

Tuesday, October 18.

I rode my bike to work and back home, 6.25 miles. This picture was taken underneath the ore…

My second week of the Three Speed October 2016 challenge

Urban Adventure League

Hello fine folks! I just wrapped up another week of riding my Raleigh Superbe to qualify for my very own Three Speed October 2016 challenge! How did this week look?

  1. Wednesday 19 October: 23.8 miles total, as my Coffeeneuring Ride 3.
  2. Thursday 20 October: 11.9 miles total, work commute.
  3. Friday 21 October: 15.9 miles total, about seven of those were part of my Coffeeneuring Ride 4.

Okay, one more week to go. I think I can make it!

Three Speed October: Accidental participant

Winnipeg gets in on the Three Speed October action! Okay, any other Prairie cities out there in? Saskatoon? Calgary?

Gertrude Dispatch

Misreading things is totally my forte. I just realized that I actually can participate in Three Speed October challenge. I think I read three consecutive weeks… And then I read “only” one utility ride per month… What can I say? I was on my phone at the airport waiting for my luggage while I read the rules. I was out of town (and away from my bike) from the 8th to the 18th, but I did ride my bike at least three times the week before we left. How about that! Thanks to Moves, I can document them before I forget, so here we go:

Oct 1: 6 km, plus 7.2 km of walking our bikes through crowds. Ugh. (This is a superfluous ride, since the challenge doesn’t start until the 2nd) Rode downtown with Nelson for Nuit Blanche Winnipeg. We had a great time. I am a fan of…

Three Speed October Challenge: Week Three Finale

Keith in Edmonton has completed the Three Speed October challenge. Yes!!!

Challenge complete! It was warmer this week, most of the early snowfall has now melted and the normal autumn weather felt like a reprieve from a winter that hasn’t officially arrived yet. I found the time to get my third three-speed bike into service to ride for the challenge and met my additional personal goal of riding each bike at least three times during the three weeks.

The last of my bikes to be used in the challenge is the first three-speed I ever owned. I bought this 1965 CCM Continental a few years back from the Raving Bike Fiend. It’s a lovely old bike that has only seen light use since I acquired it. Unlike the Superbe or the R20, and for reasons I can’t quite pin down, this one insists on being ridden at a leisurely pace. I’ve mostly used it for relaxed family…
