Reminder: Three Speed Get-Together this Saturday, January 19th!

Hey folks! Just a friendly reminder that the Get-Together is this weekend! We’ve had a few people sign up. If you are thinking of coming, please register via Eventbrite. This way I know how much of a space to reserve at Montavilla Brew Works. Registration is free, and takes maybe two minutes.

*****

All within traveling distance of Portland, Oregon are invited to a meeting between 4 PM and 6: 30 PM on Saturday January 19th at Montavilla Brew Works, 7805 SE Stark St., Portland, Oregon, USA.

This event is FREE, but all beverages will be paid for by YOU. Montavilla Brew Works has no kitchen so no onsite food besides a few snacks. However, they allow outside food, and there are HEAPS of options within a couple blocks of the brewery. You will not go hungry!

After the gathering, if people are willing and the weather’s okay, we may go for a ride. So, it is best to bring your Three Speed bicycle to show off and use! (And it’ll be dark and maybe wet, bring lights and rain gear for that.)

Things that will happen at the gathering:

  • A State Of The Three Speeds Address
  • Prizes!
  • Society of Three Speeds Memberships sold at just $20 (would be $27 if purchased online)
  • Discussion of upcoming Society of Three Speeds events for 2019
  • Other random crap to be determined.

Pre-registration is encouraged. I need to get a handle on how many of you folks will be showing up so I can reserve the appropriate amount of space. Registration is free and takes two minutes. Please register here.

And for those of you coming from out of town: Make it a Three Speed Weekend! The following day I’ll be leading my (mostly) annual Palm Tree Ride. We’ll be meeting up in the same neighborhood, at at Fillmore, 7201 NE Glisan St at 11 AM. We depart at 11:30 AM. This ride will be three speed friendly. Find more details on the ride here.

Three Speed Get-Together, Sunday 25 February (plus Velocirque)

Hello folks! As spring continues to march its way towards us, now is the time to have a Society of Three Speeds events. Not a ride just yet, but a get-together!

Join us on Sunday February 25th at 6 PM at venerable Velo Cult Bike Shop Thing plus Tavern Type Thing, 1969 NE 42nd Ave in Portland’s Hollywood District. We’ll hang out indoors for a couple hours, drink beer, and talk three speeds. If we feel so inclined, maybe we’ll take a short spin afterwards. So bring your three speed!

Pertinent points of this gathering:

  • There will be trivia! And possibly a few prizes with trivia.
  • We’ll talk about the upcoming Three Speed Adventure April Challenge.
  • We’ll also check in on upcoming Society of Three Speed activities.

Also worth noting: On Saturday February 24, Velocirque will be happening at Velo Cult! This is a vintage bike show happening from 3 to 8 PM. This time around, they are specifically encouraging three speeds to show up and strut their stuff! So don’t be shy, bring down your trusty three speed to be ogled by others. (Having a kickstand is a definite plus.) There’ll be a ride meeting at the shop at 10 AM before the main event.

Three Speed Gathering Report

Well, the first Three Speed Get-Together came and went. Seven of us met up at Velo Cult on Saturday January 31st to drink beverages and talk three speeds! The “best-in-show” bike goes to Sandra’s Phillips, which she has spent the last month or so lovely restoring. (It even has a working Dynohub!) And I gave out lots of prizes too, nobody went home empty-handed. I don’t know if we’ll be having another get-together any time soon, but there are rides on the way…

Reminder: Three Speed Gathering this Saturday! (Plus updated info!)

Hello friends of SoTS! Do I even need to remind you of the Three Speed Get-Together that is happening this Saturday, January 31st? No, it should have been written on your calendar in bold capital letters with a red sharpie!

But anyways, I hope to see those of you who CAN make it at Velo Cult in the happenin’ Hollywood District of Portland, Oregon (1969 NE 42nd Ave) from 5 to 8 pm. You do not need to be a member of Society of Three Speeds to be there, but you should bring your three speed!

The gathering will be pretty informal, EXCEPT at seven o’ clock, when I will do announcements, prizes, and giveaways! A bit more details:

  • I will announce the date of the first Three Speed Ride! I will not announce it any earlier than 7 pm, so don’t ask.
  • (Well, if you need to know because “you’re leaving early” or some nonsense, you may be able to bribe me with a hearty ale, purchased at Velo Cult.)

And what about those prizes? Well, feast your eyes on some of what will be offered on Saturday!

IMG_1344I’ll be asking trivia questions about various things, and prize selection will be determined by want, need, and usability. (For example, you’re not going to win shaving cream if you don’t shave.)

A selection of the prizes:

  • Bell Streetster tyre in the ever popular 26″ x 1 3/8″ size
  • Luxurious Musgo Real shaving cream with brush
  • Vintage French-made Norex 39 saddle
  • Two leather-faced brake pads for caliper brakes. Leather provides superior stopping power for wet steel rims!
  • Toe clips, toe clip “coozys”, and Velo Orange leather toeclip wrap.
  • A leather satchel with buffalo nickel clasp!
  • One of the Three Speed Ride posters from the first event in 2011! Rare and screenprinted.
  • Some other crap not seen here.

And, I will be rewarding a free SoTS membership to someone attending that can use it! Please note: to get this, you MUST be present, bring your three speed, and make a compelling reason why you should get it! Sorry, no “gift memberships” for those not in attendance.

Also, I’ll have some of those screenprinted Three Speed Ride posters available for sale for just $5. Plus stickers and buttons for 50 cents each! If you desire to purchase any of these, let me know in advance.

And everyone who shows up gets a freebie or two! I promise!

Okay, see you fine folks Saturday!

Gauging Interest: A winterish get together?

As you’ve read here previously, the last official Three Speed Ride of the year happened on October 11th. I don’t intend on having another “official” ride until March 2015, probably. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a three-speed social activity!

I’m thinking of having an informal Three-Speed Get-Together sometime this winter. It would be on a Sunday evening at a place we can get adult beverages and food. Just an open night of people who enjoy this humble bicycle.

I’m guessing sometime in January would be good. We could even do another one in February, too. (I’d say we could even do one sooner, but once the “holiday season” starts, it gets a little tough to do these types of things.)

So, what do you fine folks think? While I welcome comments from everyone, I’m most interested in those folks in the Portland area, those who would be able to attend.2014-11-01 16.26.11
